Catholic Heritage

¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ University, founded by the Sisters of Charity, is an innovative center for learning, offering a variety of educational opportunities to diverse populations.

Historically, the identity of ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ University was rooted in a strong connection to the Catholic Church through the founding religious congregation, the Sisters of Charity. The values and teachings of the Sisters were evident in the academic curriculum and in student life.

¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ prizes its Catholic intellectual heritage and the Judeo-Christian tradition in which the Sisters established the University. It values the cumulative wisdom of the past, reveres human creativity and human intellectual capacity in all of its dimensions, and is mindful of the life of the spirit.

Drawing on these traditions, through guidance and example, the University stresses both community participation and respect for the individual. It leads students to value the graces of courtesy, kindness, compassion, dialogue and respect for diversity.

With full-heartedness the University is committed to making our world a better place than it has been and working with our students to accomplish that end.

A Prayer For Peace, Wisdom And Unity For The ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ University Community

Psalm 41:2-3 “The Lord protects and preserves them - they are counted among the blessed in the land—he does not give them over to the desire of their foes. The Lord sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness.”

Let us pray:

Loving Father of our Lord, Jesus Christ, hear your people’s plea for your divine assistance. Move our hearts with the peace of your Spirit as we care for ourselves and each other. Lift our minds with your wisdom to act responsibly and effectively for everyone’s benefit.

Bring us together in your Holy Spirit to work as one in protecting each other from this menacing disease.

As our patron, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, faithfully faced in her own family the suffering and sacrifices human illness brings, strengthen our faith as we carry on our daily lives in these difficult circumstances. Bless us, we pray, and hold us close to your loving kindness, now and forever.

Amen
